Farmers Market begins April 25th NATCHITOCHES – Rita Brockner has been named the coordinator of the Cane River Green Market for the 2009 season. Brockner will be the onsite coordinator each Saturday at the market to assist customers, vendors and patrons. Brockner, who has a love for gardening, moved to Natchitoches in 1978 and settled into small town life with her husband and two children. "I have wanted to be more involved in the community," Brockner said. "We grow our own vegetables so this just seemed like it is right up my alley." The 2009 season of the Cane River Green Market will begin on Saturday, April 25 and will run through Saturday, July 25. The Green Market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the downtown riverbank.
Produce vendors will have a variety of fresh produce including fruits, vegetables and eggs. Shoppers can also find homemade items such as breads, jams and jellies and honey products. Other items include bedding plants, fresh cut flowers and herbs.
Craft vendors are selling handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry, woodwork, pencil drawings and stained glass. There will also be quilts, purses, soaps and much more.
Vendors are being sought to participate in the 2009 Green Market season. Green, value-added and craft vendors will be allowed to participate at every market. Vendors pay a booth fee of $15 for each market day they attend.
All vendors must grow their own produce or make their own products. Produce co-ops are encouraged for those growers who may only have one or two items to vend.
