The Natchitoches LSU AgCenter will celebrate National Fruits and Vegetable Month at the Cane River Green Market on Saturday, June 6. This national health initiative was designed to encourage Americans to eat more fruits and vegetables. Over 90 percent of Moms say it is important to include fruits and vegetables in their family meals but over 50 percent acknowledge that their families are eating too few. Healthy, smart choices begin with tasting and the LSU AgCenter will introduce a bountiful variety of fruits and vegetables both children and adults will enjoy. The free sampling of fruit and veggie treats, compliments of the LSU AgCenter, is sure to have you rethinking snack time. Live entertainment on June 6 will be provided by The Back Porch Band from 10 a.m. to noon. The band primarily plays traditional ballads, folk and Celtic music. Band members play many instruments including violins, dulcimers, cello, harp, wash boards and Irish whistles. This Saturday, produce vendors will have squash, cucumbers, peas and tomatoes in addition to seafood dips, cakes and pies.
