 Farmers market will celebrate "Pet Day"
NATCHITOCHES – Cane River Green Market, Natchitoches’ local farmers market, will continue its 2009 season on Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the downtown riverbank.
Live musical entertainment will be provided by “Them Jazz Catz” from 10 a.m. to noon. “Them Jazz Catz” is a standard and contemporary jazz band with new age flair The Natchitoches Humane Society will be holding an adoption day at the Green Market with the Modern Woodmen of the World assisting as part of their national day of service. Dogs and cats will be available for adoption and information will be available on volunteer opportunities with the Humane Society or the animal shelter. Market patrons are encouraged to bring their pets with them to the market. Water bowls and treats will be provided. Make sure you stop and visit one the market’s newest vendors, “Barking Mad Organic Dog Biscuits” and treat your pooch to an all natural, healthy snack. Children’s will also find many activities to take part in at the market including coloring, crafts and education on proper pet care. There will also be an informational booth at the market about Natchitoches Galloway Runners, a marathon training program. Besides fresh fruits, herbs, vegetables and plants, customers can choose from a selection of “value-added products” including farm fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, seafood products, tamales and much more. Handmade crafts at the market include woodwork, furniture, art, jewelry, stained glass, soaps, bird feeders and more. The Green Market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from April 25 through July 25. There will also be special harvest markets in the fall.
